Similar to Nev's Disk, it's a deterrent in play. It's a different way of getting ahead, but not necessarily bad. You're spending it instead of ramp, so you're instead anticipating you'll need removal. If you consider how strong it is using quadrant theory:Įarly game, it's possibly okay. To make it have an impact, you need to play several artifacts while it is in play, then spend another 4 mana, and then it can deal with a single target if it was not removed by then. It's a 2 mana spell that doesn't immediately impact the board. If this breaks 5% play in Daretti or Feldon decks (the premier red artifact decks), I'll be absolutely shocked. Once more, I disagree that it's even close to a staple. However, you can turn it into a ] which is a real jank play and kind of cool, if incredibly fragile and inconsistent. It's an inefficient removal piece, an inefficient combo piece, and honestly not all that interesting in my eyes. There's a long list of payoffs for Dockside that have uses in the case you do not have infinite mana. You still need to loop Elixir of Immortality with it, but it's useful as just a shock / cycle early anyways.Īs for Dockside, this is once again only a payoff. If you're going to run a loop like that, you're better off running ], which allows you to draw out your library if you find yourself against someone who is immune to damage so you can answer it (mostly so you can ] a ]). This can hit a single player, then needs to be picked back up to go again. It's very similar to ] in Magda in this way, but the Welder can at least ping everyone down once it hits the field. However, this card does nothing until you're on infinite treasure generation it costs 6 mana and requires time on the field to be a weak removal spell. Magda can tutor this to play, continue generating a bajillion treasures, then cash in to kill on target. Prosper decks often run Magda in the 99 to access these, so I'd argue it's basically the same. I'm looking at this from the "spamming treasures" standpoint OP mentioned, which is mostly Magda lines.
